“From many berries, one grape cluster — one story, many hands.”

Our story

The story of the Slejko estate began in the early 20th century, when Anton Slejko added the first vines to his livestock farm and began cultivating vineyards — a tradition that has now been continued by several generations of his family. After his death, the farm was taken over by his son Venceslav, who was only 13 years old at the time. With exceptional dedication, he developed the winemaking tradition that became the foundation of our identity today. Each generation has left its own mark on this story — through its work, knowledge, perseverance, and love for the land. Today, we continue this path with respect for our heritage and a modern outlook on the future of viticulture.

Slejko family

The Slejko family has lived with wine for more than a century. The work has been passed down from generation to generation — from Anton to Venceslav, then to his son Anton, one of the initiators of the first private agricultural cooperative in the former Yugoslavia, and today to Borut, who, together with three generations, preserves the tradition while bringing freshness and new ideas to it. Our estate is built on family connection, community work, the support of friends, and respect for every member who is part of our story.

Vineyards

Our vineyards are located in Zalošče, in the heart of the Vipava Valley, where Alpine and Mediterranean influences meet. This unique climate and diverse soils create ideal conditions for growing premium-quality grapes. We do not use herbicides in our vineyards, as we want to preserve the vitality of the soil and the natural rhythm of growth. We believe that manual work, patience, and respect for nature are the key to authentic wines that reflect our landscape and our character.

Slovenia is a small yet exceptionally diverse country, where the Alps meet the Adriatic, hills, and valleys. At the heart of this diversity lies the Vipava Valley, known for its rich winemaking tradition.

The village of Zalošče is nestled among sunny vineyards and the Vipava River. Mediterranean and continental influences create ideal conditions for producing premium wines and offer an authentic, peaceful countryside experience.

Our philosophy is based on respect for nature, tradition, and people. We do not use herbicides in our vineyards, as we want our wine to be friendly to both the environment and people. We allow the grapes to ripen naturally, with careful manual work and minimal intervention.

Hand harvesting and precise processing allow us to create wines with character — wines that tell a story of the land, the people, and time. We believe that quality comes from the balance between nature, people, and tradition, and every glass of our wine is part of that whole.

Wines

On our estate, we cultivate 13 international grape varieties, complemented by two proud indigenous varieties of the Vipava Valley: Zelen and Pinela. Zelen impresses with its aromatic character, delicacy, and elegance. Pinela is refined, bright, and light, yet full of character. Each wine is made from carefully harvested grapes and with minimal intervention in the cellar. Our wines regularly receive awards at domestic and international competitions.

Zaloščan
The Zaloščan brand takes its name from the village of Zalošče, whose origins tell the story of a girl named Zala. The village of Dornberk was once known as Zali breg, which is why the Zaloščan brand symbolically and proudly carries the name of our village, preserving the stories passed down from generation to generation.

DeAdami

The De Adami brand takes its name from Adami Klemše, the first registered inhabitant of the village of Zalošče. He was an important figure of the 17th century, a co-creator of Jesuit education in the Goriška region and the founder of the first agricultural school in Slovenian lands. His legacy reaches beyond the local area and continues to inspire us today.

The part of the village where our wine cellar stands today is still called Pri Klemšetih. Historical records confirm that in 1621, Adami Klemše founded an institution where boys from poor farming families could receive an education. It is also believed that he was the one who brought the first grapevine to this area.

He is buried in the church of Zalošče, where a tombstone built into the church wall still commemorates him today. We added the Latin preposition “De” to his name, meaning “of” or “from,” as a mark of respect for his greatness and influence.

Modern approaches, combined with traditional thinking, allow each wine to develop its full potential. We are proud of our award-winning wines, such as Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and others, which have impressed international wine judges.

Our estate is located in Zalošče, where cultural heritage, the peace of wine-growing hills, and the warmth of the Vipava Valley create a unique experience. It is a place where tradition meets modernity, where the family welcomes guests with open arms, and where every visitor can feel the authenticity of a homely environment.
